FOUR WAYS TO KEEP YOUR BLOCK PAVING LOOKING GOOD

If you have recently had your driveway renovated, you will want to know how to keep it looking good.  There are a few ways that you can maintain your drive without a hefty price tag. Here we outline four ways that you can keep your drive looking great, add curb appeal and decrease the amount of maintenance needed throughout the year.

Remove weeds from the grout

Weeds and moss can start to grow in between the slabs of block paving making the whole driveway look unsightly. Furthermore, leaving these weeds to grow can cause long term damage to your drive; gaps between paving slabs may start to expand and you may even notice your paving slowly sinking. The easiest way to remove them is by using a hand-held removal tool to scrape the growth out. Alternatively, you can apply weed killer to the area a week or so before you plan on removing them, this will give it a chance to work and enable weeds to be removed a lot quicker; it should also prevent regrowth or at least slow it down.

Power wash

Using a jet washer is a great tool to use after removing weeds, first use a garden brush to sweep away the top layer of dirt and debris and follow up with a high powered washer. This will blast out the dirt stuck further down and make the driveway look like new. However, do be careful that the pressure used isn’t too harsh for your driveway as incorrect use could result in damage to the paving.

Remove stains

If your car sits on your driveway, then oil and grease can leave marks on the surface beneath, but if you want to increase your home’s curb appeal then removing these can make a big difference to the look of your drive. When the stain is still wet use a paper towel to remove the liquid, but do not scrub the area as this can make things worse, instead dab the patch or simply lay the towel on top. Once dry you can then choose your removal method, products are readily available to be applied directly to the stain or search the internet  to provide you with a more natural remedy.

Driveway sealer

Take a trip to your local hardware store and purchase a driveway sealer or gloss. These products are great for areas with high levels of traffic like driveways, they will stop oil leaks from staining your drive as well as adding a glossy finish by enhancing the colour of your block paving. The application time is relatively short, so in just a few hours your drive could be transformed from dull and unkempt to glossy and weed-free.
